How so? Going by data transfer rates the PCI slots can handle I believe 266MB/s. Those 10k drives are 160MB/s, so that shouldnt be a problem. <<If you filled your SCSI card (I'll be charitable and give you a dual-channel card, and imagine the space to put them all in there) you would have 14 9g drives, costing you between $280-$500. giving you a grand total of 126 GB of storage. For that price I could have 300-400 GB of storage with ATA drives.>> I have trouble filling up the 6GB drive in my Beige. Once I start storing large amounts of audui and video files, then Ill need more, Really, I think both technologies can be used together. An ATA drive can be used for storing large amounts of files and CD and DVD drives, while a SCSI can be used where speed is important, like using it as a scratch disk for applications or virtual memory, and having the system stored on it. <<I have three possible jumper positions. You have 8.>> Unless Im using one of those switches where all you do is select the number of the ID... <<I mean SCSI has a place, and perhaps a place in people's hearts, but don't try to says it's easier and cheaper than ATA. It isn't.>> I wont try to say it, Ill outright say this. SCSI is easier than ATA. Ok, at most neither is any easier than the next. Ill admit SCSI is more expensive, but thats because its better. And I can get a couple of 10k drives and an 80MB/s SCSI card for under $100 easy and have a well balanced system as far as speed goes.
