Im going to go with the option that doesnt invole paying for an ATA 
controller.  I wouldnt pay more than $20 for an ATA-133 controller card.  I instead 
would opt for a much better, IMO,  80MB/s SCSI card (dont let me start 
another argument here).  I think its safe enough using a Maxtor harddrive and maybe 
also the software that also fixes the problem, if its even beneficial.
