Actually on a PCI ATA controller card you can get 4 IDE drives (if your case has room for them). The card has two buses each capable of handling a master and a slave. As for setting up some sort of funky stuff to get the 2nd drive working all you need to do is set the jumpers on the drives - one for master and the other for slave. There's no need for setting ID #'s to each drive. I'm using an ACARD-100+ and all I had to do was place in a PCI slot, set the drive to master, attach the drive to the card, boot up the B&W, and the icon for the drive instantly appeared on the desktop.
You could run into a problem if you're using a drive that the card doesn't recognize or the Mac OS doesn't recognize. In this case you may need to use a 3rd party hard drive program like FWB Hard drive toolkit. Then again I've also experienced this problem with SCSI drives. But if you're buying major brand drives then you shouldn't have any problems (knock on wood). Another plus is being able to use DVD-ROMs, DVD burners, CD-RW burners, etc. I know there are CD burners for SCSI but these are getting harder to find and are pretty pricey. There just seems to be more options available for ATA. on 7/6/03 1:28 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > In a message dated 2003-07-06 11:37:52 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] > writes: > > << Do you LIKE paying 3-5X as much for drives and playing the SCSI voodoo > game? 8-0 >> > > I can find 9GB 10k rpm SCSI160 drives for between $20 and $35.
