Hope someone can shed some light on this.......
Just got what I thought to be a "wings" card.
Shows up in ASP as whisper in attributes.
Not intending to do video but wanted the better sound
& to mess around with some audio stuff (vinyl & midi).
Beige DT/G3-450/768 ram/OS 9.2.2/LiteOn 52x32x52.

Phase 1:
1. Installed it, booted, no startup chime, sound cp looks
wierd & volume control sliders stuck at zero. Play audio cd,
no sound from main speaker, plug in headphones to cd-ok.
2. Shutdown, pulled card, cleaned contacts, reseated.
3. Booted, no chime, sound cp looks normal, still no
sound from front spkr.
4. Reinstalled stock audio card. Works fine (chime & audio).

Phase 2:
1. reset cuda, zapped pram with whisper card installed.
2. "clean" install of 9.1/9.2.1/9.2.2 & tried audio cd
in between each install.
3. No start up chime or alerts sound in step 2.
4. I can see cd/dav/ext mic/rca in/sound in/none (normal)
as options in sound cp "input" tab. Can select cd or let it default
to cd when I insert audio cd. (normal). Can open cd player
from control strip & control volume slider from both.
5. Sound out tab shows "built in" by default (normal).
No ext speakers to try. Plugging headphones into sound out
mini-jack yields very low volume to headphones (normal?).
6. CP Speakers tab looks normal but sound test doesn't work.
7. Volume sliders are adjustable in all tabs (normal) including
control strip (normal).
Someone pls tell me whisper doesn't mean no main spkr sound out.
Out of ideas :-(
