Follow-up.

Upgrade complete - the hard (long) way - and all seems well. Had some
problems with printers and Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse, but they
are/should be resolved with a simple reinstall.

For anyone else needing to move their Users from Jag (10.2.8) to Panther
(10.3.5), Apple provides the process (!).

See: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106941

See in particular section III Restore, part C. After a manual backup.

Thanks to everyone who offered their suggestions.
