Simple/stupid question ...

I have a B&W which was delivered with a DVD drive.

I did a fresh install of the MacOS from CD-ROM.

DVD player which was installed during that MacOS install reports that the
required hardware is not there when I launch it.

What is the minimum hardware configuration required for playing DVDS on a
B&W G3?

In particular, what video card is required, as that's the only hardware
which I think might be considered to be missing.

Peter,

Is that you? I thought for sure you'd know the answer for this one,
being the guru for all things G3. <g>

You *must* have a hardware decoder card attached to the OEM ATI video
card for DVD decoding to work.

Not exactly. It depends on which OS you are running. As I posted in another thread earlier today:

Yes, under OS 9 you do need a hardware decoder, be it the Rage card add-on decoder board, or a card that has the built in decoder. Under OS X (Jag or Panther), then it's no longer required, as DVD Player has software decoding built in. I have a Rev A B&W 400 which now has an Apple OEM DVD drive running with Panther, and it plays DVD's fine with DVD Player. Since it was equipped with the CD drive originally, it does not have the decoder on it's original Rage card.
