Vodka - straight up, thanks. The last time I _ever_ had any security or virus related trouble was 1991 when I discovered a very old (even at that time) virus infecting a floppy disk belonging to a teacher of mine. I think it was infecting a graphic file if memory serves, but it's such a long time ago I don't recall the details. > Oh, and "occasionally" I receive ugly e-mails with attachments from Windows > users who don't know they're sending the payloads along. It's highly likely the return addresses are either invalid or the addresses of some third party who never had anything to do with the original email (I get those al the time, so often I'd report them as SPAM to Spamcop if I could - but I can't since they're bounces, bounces back to a false address - mine - but Spamcop won't accept them as SPAM). GRRRR!) so you're just wasting their time, and - more importantly - your time. > You might appreciate the fact that on this Lombard, I'm running 9.2.2 on an > Ethernet network with an Intego firewall configured to my specifications. > I'm using M$ Entourage as my e-mail client on this machine, and I do have > Office 2001 on it. > > I have Virex on this Lombard, but I just checked: the last time I updated > anything Virex-related was last August. I have Virex set to auto-update on startup otherwise I'd forget, plus I've got to protect those PC users from themselves and not pass on PC viruses :-\ > Nothing runs automatically on my 'Books: not a virus-scanner, not a > utilities app, not scripts in my browsers, nothing. > > I have no problems. If it wasn't for that infected floppy I could happily have said I've _never_ personally had a computer catch a virus in RL. _Ever_. This is probably due to me only running old versions of MS-DOS and Windows. I'm sure if I ran XP I'm positive I'd have gotten up close and personal with some malicious code by now, however careful I am.
