I'll buy you a stiff one next time you're in Fairbanks. I'm running two networked PowerBooks here in Alaska and they've been connected to the internet for two years now with no exploits, aside from two nitwits who tried to get in via Port 80. Oh, and "occasionally" I receive ugly e-mails with attachments from Windows users who don't know they're sending the payloads along. I just delete those messages, and I automatically send along a notice to them that they have a problem they need to fix. You might appreciate the fact that on this Lombard, I'm running 9.2.2 on an Ethernet network with an Intego firewall configured to my specifications. I'm using M$ Entourage as my e-mail client on this machine, and I do have Office 2001 on it. I have Virex on this Lombard, but I just checked: the last time I updated anything Virex-related was last August. Nothing runs automatically on my 'Books: not a virus-scanner, not a utilities app, not scripts in my browsers, nothing. I have no problems. The other 'Book runs Panther, and no issues there either, with no anti-virus installed or enabled. I'm a PowerBook guy. I need to fire 'em up and go, because I have an "itnerant lifestyle." No virus problems _ever_, not even with my old Duos, my 1400, or my (shudder) 5300, or the lovely Kanga (3500). I've run Windows machines since 3.1, and I've been on Macs on and off since 1984. I run on the go with Apple 'Books now, because I can, and because they suit me, I've never been infected. Avoiding that is a matter of knowledge and skill. -- Peace, Burkman ICQ 62393161 [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
