I bought a G3 400 recently, as many of you know. I installed OSX and wanted to keep it that way without OS9, but alas, within two days I was forced to install it because there is NO SUCH thing as a FREE telnet application for OSX and my sister (being a college student) needed to use it. We originally thought the Terminal would help us achieve the same as with Telnet but got really frustrated trying to work with it (well my sister assured me some students were using it in their G4s at school like they would use TelNet [I wonder if that's right])

Umm... I agree with much of what you say, to varying degrees, but: telnet is right there, and you don't have do know any unix commands or know how to navigate directories (like you would for using ftp or sftp clients - which are also available from the prompt).

Run the terminal. type telnet <host you wish to connect to> (without the brackets)

The one things I definitely liked about X was that finally, I didn't have to rely on 3rd party solutions for telnet and sftp clients.

IF the terminal isn't working properly for telnet, it could be that the system you are connecting to is assuming something about terminal type (vt100 etc) that doesn't make sense, but that would be a bit unlikely.

I'd give it another shot for that task, anyway.
