At one time, I held down the keys for over ten cycles, but no change. With the
PRAM battery reinserted, and without the network connection present, the time
came up as the good ol' 8/7/56 that I'd expect. However, using the restart
button in the OS X splash screen produced the same effect. I did notice
something different, however. Right after the first boot after the PRAM battery
reinsertion, for about ten seconds, I got the Disk ? icon blinking, then it
booted normally. I'm thinking that it might've tried to select the CD as a boot
device (though the C key was not held down; might this computer try to boot
from the CD even without this?), but failed, though I'm not sure. I'll buy
another PRAM battery tomorrow, and see if that does any good.
