I've done a number of "clean installs" and never had to wipe, delete or 
reformat. It just gave me a new "clean"  blessed system folder along the old 
system 
folder from which you can drag any old Extensions, CP's or Pref's into the 
new clean one. Of course we are talking about OS 9. Have I missed something?
