Here's the problem:
Phishers write their emails to appear as if they're legit. They
give you a link to click that appears as:
Click Here
or
Login
or
a link to a URL like Ebay.com (which the G-list rejected)
but if you look at the code behind it, you're really being linked to
some other site entirely. From today's spam-bucket, for instance:
219.141.41.39/php/.../
Looks legit, doesn't it? It's not. They're doing identity theft.
Some of the links even go to actual Ebay pages.
It's pretty easy to fool people into this kind of stuff if they're not careful.
THEREFORE, the rule that you should NEVER follow a link in email, but
instead log into your account (be it paypal, ebay, your bank, or
whatever) by navigating directly to the site (ie, typing in the url
or following a bookmark you made after typing in the URL) and then
logging in.
