Love the way you wrote that :) . I know exactly what you mean about trying to explain something technical to a person who's not so into computing. Usually I start over trying to avoid technical terms and trying to speak slowy without trying to patronize the person.
Anyay on-topic. I've got PayPal for a few years now, I've bought several things over-seas (meaning in the US since I live in Europe) and never had any problems doing so. PayPal is hooked up to my credit card meaning that every purchase with PayPal is transfered immediately to the seller. I usually buy things on eBay and it's easy i the seller uses PayPal.
One time I bought something from a professional looking computer site which afterwards seemed to be a scam. Unfortunately I had already payed (about $50) and since my CC is hooked up to PayPal the payment was immediate. There was no way to cancel the transfer. After connecting PayPal they started a serious investigation. Unfortunately they couldn't refund the money. That was the only time I had problems with PayPal.
