It takes several hours for iDVD to encode one of my hour-long videos,
created in either iMovie or Final Cut Express. What I do is start the
encoding process before I go to bed, leave it chewing on it, and it
will be ready in the morning. I'm guessing it takes five to six hours
for the encoding (G4 733 DA, iDVD 4, internal Pioneer 107 superdrive).
The hours that iDVD works on the video are all spent encoding and
compressing the audio and video, not burning. Once that first DVD is
created, iDVD will then ask whether you want to make any more copies.
If you do, each copy then takes about ten minutes each to burn.
Toast 6 can also burn a copy of an hour-long-plus video DVD in about
twelve minutes. Thus, once I have a video DVD finished, I need never
repeat all the hours of encoding; just let Toast 6 make any more copies
I need.

Just curious how much faster this '110' model is - compared to her
current drive.
The Pioneer 105 DVD-RW drive takes apox 12-15 min to burn a full DVD
disk using DVD x 4 media. So if it takes over night don't blame it on
the DVD burner! Software or a too slow CPU is the likely reason. So
buying the fastest DVD burner isn't going to be the fix your hoping
for. Will S

She uses iDVD & Tiger. So why can't I blame the drive?
OK, I exaggerated with the word 'overnighter'. It still takes HOURS to
burn one DVD.
One thing I could have her change next time she burns DVD - to choose
the max rated speed.
I was told (or read somewhere) that selecting a speed LESS than max
gives you the best results and
minimizes corruption. Did I get this right? Go ahead and laugh. It's
good for your heath.... ;)
