Thanks for the very interesting comments on MacDraw.
I hope to be able to use your work around for MacDrawPro, Bruce.
But, I can't find MacDrawPro anywhere.
Can you or anyone refer to a download site?
Is MacDrawPro later version than MacDrawII?
I am going to try Inkscape.
Since I don't have a lot of MacDraw files
I'm just looking for ease of use.
BTW, I mentioned jfdraw.jar as a possibility
but, having given it a quick try it seemed knarly.
MacDraw was so straight forward.
Apparently there is some sort of industry requirement
that you have to keep upgrading your product into more and more
complicated versions.
Clark, what did you mean "cocoa app"?
A cocoa app is a purely OS X program, a Carbon app will work natively
in either X or 9. When working in X it does not use the Classic
environment. Carbon was a way Apple came up with to transition
programs to X. The cocoa API allows a program to use all the neat
features of OS X.
I referred to it as a cocoa app to differentiate it from carbons apps
that could run in either X or 9
As always, thanks.

MacDraw Pro works just fine in classic. There's a bug in the program,
though (which also manifested in OS 9, iirc) in that you cannot re-
save a file if MDP is running from a disk > 2GB.
A workaround I've discovered (very useful since I have several
professors with LOTS of old figures in MacDraw Pro) is to make a disk
image using Disk Utility, then storing the MacDraw program on it. It
doesn't need to be very large at all.
Then when you want to use MacDraw Pro, double-click on the disk
image, then double-click on the MD icon.
Also, there's Inkscape <http://www.inkscape.org/> which is more of a
Illustrator replacement. This is an X-windows app, not entirely Mac-
like, but there's a Mac installer.
There's also NeoOffice, which includes a drawing component; it's more
of a MS Office replacement, though.

Yeah, I'm still looking for a ClarisDraw replacement. This does run
in Classic but I still want a cocoa app.
