You're all obviously more patient than me! My Quicksilver '02 800
with the stock CPU feels painfully slow to me, even with the 6800
Ultra in there! Once I finally manage to sell my Mac mini, it's
getting dual 7457s!
If it wouldn't be too rude to ask, what do you do with your cpu
that tries your patience?
I guess I don't even have the slowest Mac on this list, by some way,
but general OS usage, web browsing, work on 12mpixel images in
Photoshop, music production in Logic Pro & playing in GarageBand...
It just feels slow, but I can't afford a decent G5 (i.e. it was gonna
have to be an iMac G5 second hand (poor graphics chip) or a single
processor 1.6GHz G5 tower, and form what I saw, the fast dual G4
upgrades are generally a little bit faster and cost a little less
even post-upgrade), so I settled on a Quicksilver '02 as the upgrade
path for my Mac mini. Trouble is, I haven't gotten round to selling
the mini so I can afford my dual processor upgrade yet!
The graphics card is a little excessive for this machine, I guess but
I had laying around anyway, castoff from my last AGP-based Windows
machine.
Whichever way you look on it, I guess I'm not really in with the
whole spirit of "Low End Macs"... I _can_ do what I need to with this
machine, I'm just not used to anything this slow (I've been somewhat
spoiled by fast x86 machines despite being a long time Mac user in
preference) -
Jason
