I guess I don't even have the slowest Mac on this list, by some way, but general OS usage, web browsing, work on 12mpixel images in Photoshop, music production in Logic Pro & playing in GarageBand... It just feels slow, but I can't afford a decent G5 (i.e. it was gonna have to be an iMac G5 second hand (poor graphics chip) or a single processor 1.6GHz G5 tower, and form what I saw, the fast dual G4 upgrades are generally a little bit faster and cost a little less even post-upgrade), so I settled on a Quicksilver '02 as the upgrade path for my Mac mini. Trouble is, I haven't gotten round to selling the mini so I can afford my dual processor upgrade yet!

I've been looking for an upgradeable (SP?) G4 machine, but in general, they're still just a touch out of my price range. That said, my B&W G3/4 is fairly capable... right now I have Mail, Safari and iTunes running along with Photoshop and Dreamweaver as well as a dvd movie playing in a small floating window. (yeah... sadly I can pay attention to movies and songs at the same time?!?!). Sometimes I do video editing or audio mixing... those tasks I pass off to one of the few wintel boxes I have, a compaq d510 sff P4-2.4GHz. WAY faster than the B&W, but suffering from that damned winderz virus!!! (may be illegal, but I'd love to see OS X running on that machine!)

Whichever way you look on it, I guess I'm not really in with the whole spirit of "Low End Macs"
Well then... go to your room young man! ;->

... I _can_ do what I need to with this machine, I'm just not used to anything this slow (I've been somewhat spoiled by fast x86 machines despite being a long time Mac user in preference) -

Yup... Bruce does everything I ask of him and he'll be around for a while, but the thought of one of those G5 machines is never far from my mind. (swoon) I see folks slamming wintel boxes all the time, but ya know... in my 20 some years on the "dark side", the only major failures I've had with those machines has been with the damned winderz part of the mix.

Okay then... off to dinner!
