Thanks for the response, Bruce. Your last preference listing (loginwindow.plist) I would first suspect as the culprit, as the status bar window seems to give up right when the "setting login window" report fails to show. Booting in Safe mode (the shift keystroke) does not yield a successful boot up (same blue window). Any way to get at that pref. in verbose mode? Thank you, Dana
