Hi Are,
Thanks for your response.
In this mini-never-ending-saga, I must report that my third install of
Panther is not yet back to life (btw, I have a newly, cheaply acquired
400mhz Yikes G4 on its first install of Panther that just seems to get
better and better with each boot up):

I have tried all the Unix-single user mode fixes that were suggested, both
on the list and at the Apple Kbase with no success (I now get the blue
screen of death *after* the log-in window: I log in, blue screen for a few
seconds, log-in window reappears, I log in, blue screen, log-in window, I
log-in, etc. I wonder, is there a desktop.plist of sorts that can be
addressed via verbose?

Anyway, to your question, all this took place with the OEM ATI Rage 128 Pro
video card - for fun (what else could go wrong?) I swapped it for an
acquired ATI Mac Radeon AGP that I just got - at least I found out the card
works - the OS is still broken.

Your point about hardware being the culprit is well-taken though, and I am
suspecting a RAM issue; one of my swapper friends is sending me a couple of
new sticks to try out.

Thanks, Are.
Best regards,
Dana
