Pushing the RAM up to 512Mb would always be a good idea.

Panther tends to run faster than Jaguar, slightly. Don't always assume a newer version is slower, more demanding of resources.

With Spotlight off or restricted, Tiger is much faster than Panther. It's VERY noticable on my 300-MHz B&W.
