Here are the symptoms – on boot get the disk symbol with the flashing
question mark.

When I boot to a cd to try to reload – I get a message that tells me the
system time is wrong.

Dead pram battery can cause all kinds of problems. Wrong time is the first indicator.

CD symbols as the wallpaper - and all I hear is the same two toned song.
Baaaaaah-Deep! Baaaaaah-Deep!
Low pitch tone followed by a shorter High pitched tone. Repeated over and
over with no message on the screen.

Power supply going bad? Where is the sound coming from.

It is like the system is looking for something.

Bad pram battery can cause the system to lose startup disk information.

I have a menu at the top with only Help highlighted - but when I click
nothing happens.
I can bet the system to reboot by hitting ctrl + option + command + power.
I reset the PRAM command + option + P + R did that 4X - no change in
symptom.

Anyone have the info on what I need to do to correct this problem??
I have another PCI scsi controller I can pop in – and see if that will
bypass the problem.
I have not done it yet – because the controller was for a WINDOWS PC.

Won't work. SCSI deals with low level OS system routines.

But I had a windows PCI USB Card – and I put it in another G3 and it worked
fine.

USB cards are written generically. Most will work in Macs and pcs.

OK so all you MAC experts help me out!! If there is a good FAQ or other
troubleshooting resource for Beige G3 systems,
Please point me to it. I’d appreciate any help and advice I could get. I
am an expert PC tech – but a novice MAC tech

Trust me, you will enjoy being a Mac tech more. Very few problems (relative to the windows word) are caused by software.

One piece of advice I am already looking into is GET a blue and white or a
G4 or better. I know (but finances don’t allow that att).

Just want to learn the Mac? Save your shekels up for a G4 AGP system, well under $200.
