I'm in a similer situation with an old Laserwriter Plus that I recently "inherited". I'd like to connect it to my Sawtooth or B&W (both running Panther). The LW+ has a 9-pin RS-422 port for Appletalk, and a 25-pin RS-232 serial connection port. Luckily this one is a Postscript printer, unlike my (now useless) PLW300, so at least in theory it should work with Panther. The problem for me is figuring out the actual mechanics of the connection between the Macs and the printer. I do have a Keyspan USB to serial (Mac DIN) adapter. I also have a Mac DIN serial to 9-pin adapter cable. I also have 9-pin to 25-pin adapters. And I have a cable that goes from the Mac DIN serial to the 25-pin serial RS-232, tho I don't know if that one will help me. My first thought was to use the Keyspan adapter with my Mac DIN serial to 9-pin cable and use Appletalk, but the cable won't plug into the printer unless I use a gender-changer (which I do have). But I don't know if that will work electrically (correct signals to correct pins, etc). Ideally I'd love to just connect it into my network, but I'm sure that would involve buying some fancy ethernet adapter that I can't afford right now. What would be the easiest solution using the hardware that I have? Or maybe the better question is, is this possible with what I have?
