well it also depends on what you have. I have a headphone, and subs which if I set them right and the computer volume the software controled control on the hd card works quite well. however on the amp i use. I need to turn the computer speakers to full, plug in the amp then run it that way. this suggests the sub has a preeamp of some kind because I don't need to boost imput to much or output on the system.
