I am starting to flop back to the idea that we should split out the python modules. The reason being there are probably some installations out there that are running minimal OS images. With 3.1.x, they are already forced to install additional libraries because Ganglia will be dynamically linked -- putting the Python stuff in standard gmond would mean they will be forced to install the Python interpreter as well. For those folks who are running installations with such a limitation, can you please let us know your thoughts? IMHO, if we split them out, then both parties will be happy. If you want it installed, you can install it separately, where on the other hand it is not forced upon you. I have no issues with say highly recommending users install this package in the release announcement etc. and also to make this the default option during ./configure as long as you can disable it. P.S. I am already hearing folks wanting to write a Perl interface -- so having this split up may not be such a bad idea to start with.
