The
purpose of the ALU Wiki pages is to provide a place for Gardeners to gather
information and to coordinate and communicate about our
projects.
If you haven't
looked at the wiki yet then it makes sense to just go check it
out.
One can go there now and get an overview of the
projects that are in progess or proposed and then see what state each of those
projects is in. Wiki's are a great team collaboration tool. They
allow a team to gather and organize relevent information in one place and
to communicate amongst themselves. This
creates focus, direction and momentum which gets stuff done. The project
pages will also serve as a good recruiting tool as newcomers will be able
to get some idea what is happpening where and find a place to fit
in.
For
example, in two days there have already been dozens of posts about
possible GUI toolkits to support in a Gardeners project. This information
has now been mostly digested into a single Wiki page providing a nice overview
of the present options and the names of key players. It
will be a primary resource for a team that ends up pursing this
project. http://wiki.alu.org/GUI_Toolkits
As far as a face to the public, I'd say leave
that to individual project teams to decide. For instance the eventual
directory project team should make an internal decision as to the
best form for their public face. The current wiki is a place
that can facilitate that decision process by collecting information about the
the options, recruiting help and fostering more informed discussion.
Is LinkIt going to rock the world or is there a better approach? Help
flush out an analysis of the options at: http://wiki.alu.org/Gardeners_Resource_Directory
Most importatntly Wiki's work by
collaborative effort. That means you. So if you have relevent
information, then go to the wiki and find a place to fit it in.
You can also just scan the wiki and find lots of spots where more
information is needed. Researching those items and adding your
findings is a great way to contribute.
