The problem as I see it is an example of the old adage "all of our eggs were in one basket". When the "04's" left for the NBA, they basically left our cupboard bare. We thought that Nick Calathes would be able to pull the kids up to his level of play, but it didn't work that way. After carrying the team on his shoulders most of the year, he is starting to exhibit weariness. I'm afraid this "rebuilding" effort still has a couple more years to go.
But, hey! Good thing we're a FOOTBALL school, huh? :-) Randy ----- Original Message ----- From: JunoGator To: gatorn...@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, March 16, 2009 10:44 AM Subject: [gatornews] Today's Gatornews from Miami Herald and Palm Beach Post Gators left out again, but Florida will host NIT game BY JOSEPH GOODMAN, Miami Herald Two years ago, the University of Florida men's basketball team was on its way to becoming the college basketball world's newest national power. Since then, the Gators have been nothing but weak. As expected, Florida did not receive an at-large invitation to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday. Instead, UF (23-10) is headed to the National Invitational Tournament for the second year in a row. The Gators will host Jacksonville (18-13) in the first round of the NIT on Wednesday. Louisiana State (26-7) and Tennessee (21-11) were the only teams from the Southeastern Conference to receive at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament. Mississippi State (21-12) played its way into the Field of 65 on Sunday by defeating Tennessee 64-61 in the SEC tournament championship game at St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa. Florida went from winning back-to-back national championships in 2006 and 2007 to missing the NCAA Tournament all together in 2008 and 2009. UF joined Michigan State as former national champions that failed to qualify for two consecutive NCAA Tournaments after winning a title. Florida coach Billy Donovan says the problem is philosophical. ------------------------snip, snip, snip------------------------- --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
