As usual, Randy and I are in total agreement. And, it says somewhere near the Corinthians that love is not supposed to be mean and cellular. But, enough about Randy.
If this were reversed a bit and it was a coed athlete being jilted by a 35-year-old boyfriend in a ritzy off-campus pad and she had a few choice words for him, I'll bet she'd win a new phone or something...At least a lot of friends on Facebook. He was just quoting scripture! In Ecclesiastes, it states that there is a time for everything, including dying. He was on his way to his bible class… I think… Let him play ball! What does he do? The “victim” stood up in court on his behalf. The charges were lowered to misdemeanor. But, Rainey gets six months of probation and counseling. I’d bet Meyer keeps him off the team for the rest of this year then lets him back on for next season. If, he does all the double secret probation stuff Meyer thinks up for him to get back on the team. I don’t know about you all, but I feel sorry for Rainey. Sure, it was stupid, and he should be punished, but I don’t think he should have to sacrifice the whole season if he gets his act back together. In light of all the arrest stories, I’d guess, as I said earlier, he won’t be back this year. But head football coach Urban Meyer said earlier today that Rainey would not play in Saturday's game against the University of Alabama. "Chris Rainey is still not a part of this team," Meyer said. "He's definitely out this week." Rainey was arrested Sept. 14 for sending a text message that said "Time to Die (expletive)" to a women he had dated. He was suspended from the team following the arrest. While Rainey had faced a third-degree felony charge of aggravated stalking, Cervone said in a written statement that he dropped the charge to a misdemeanor to better reflect the facts of the case. The victim said "she was more annoyed than threatened" and did not want prosecution, Cervone said. "I am not going to consider any request that the case be dropped in its entirety, however, because I am concerned when young people act in this way and believe that we should intervene at least to the point of forcing a cooling off period and some professional counseling on anger management and related coping skills," he said. The victim in the case also released a statement, which said she had known Rainey for three years and he had not displayed violent or threatening behavior in that time. "His actions that night were out of character for reasons unknown to us, which is why we stood up in court on his behalf," the victim said.
