I think we are on the same page here. I agree that this is Meyer's problem. Everyone is saying we need to fire Adazzio, replace Brantley, etc.,etc. We have problems in every facet of the game from play calling to execution to chemistry and leadership. Replacing one person won't solve the problem, we need to find the root cause and fix that. Is it the disorganization in practice? I don't know but we better find out soon! And yes we have players making plays all game. Janoris Jenkins has 2 interceptions on the year, yet missed covering the kicker on the LSU fake FG, Carl Moore has been making plays, Gillislee has been productive. If nobody was making plays, we would be getting blown out instead of losing at the last second.

If we were making plays all game we wouldn't be driving for game tieing field goals with 2 minutes to go or being blown out by 20+ points! You cannot believe they are making plays all game!!! Seriously? Adazzio is the assistant head coach. He is number 2. He has been there and done that. If practice is not going smoothly because too many new faces as Steve suggests, Adazzio is the fiery, motivational leader that isn't leading? He doesn't have some level or responsibility to take charge of that? Why would he sit idlely by and let that happen? He was there last year, he knows what should be done and how. Is he afraid of stepping on Meyer's toes? Surely Meyer sees the disorganization, shouldn't he step in or have his assistant head coach take charge? Something is amiss... and it does start with coaching. I stated that in an earlier post. I also stated that these highly skilled players didn't just start sucking. They are not being coached up correctly. They didn't suddenly stop running fast. They didn't stop making plays or unlearn how to catch. They are not being put into a position to maximize their ability, and that goes exactly in line with what I was saying about designing around your personnel. All of these kids are Meyer recruits. They should fit or you have a plan to utilize their skills, if they don't and you don't, then don't recruit them. It seems as if people are afraid to point the finger at Meyer. They would rather pinpoint Adazzio and, while he may be the root of the problem, its up to Meyer to fix. That's why he is paid the big bucks. I'm glad he is finally saying we need a change. After the previous two losses it was all about excuses. _____ From: Ken Kirkley <k...@kirkley.net> To: gatortalk@googlegroups.com Sent: Mon, October 18, 2010 8:53:17 AM Subject: RE: [gatortalk] I miss Dan Mullen Except, the spinwheel came out during the 2007 season. We lost 4 games that year. And while I will agree that our offense was better that year than this (could it be worse?), it was still very predictable and even with two of the best all time players Mullen couldn't win more than 9 games. And as far as the players not having the ability, come on, they make plays all game long and miss one and they don't have the ability? I am not happy with this teams performance either, but to think it would have been okay with Adazzio in another role is whistling past the graveyard. We went through tremendous upheaval in our coaching staff this year and if what Steve is saying is true, the foundation on which the program was built is crumbling. The problems we are seeing on the field are systemic and replacing one person will not right the ship. My point is, we may not have agreed with Mullen at the time, but it worked. What we are doing now is just as predictable and more unimaginative AND doesn't necessarily take the skills of our players into account. You can't say Mullen was wrong using Tebow and Harvin like he did... For some reason, this search for "playmakers" is the worst part. As you said, we had players on the field with a CHANCE but not the ability. _____ From: Ken Kirkley <k...@kirkley.net> To: gatortalk@googlegroups.com Sent: Mon, October 18, 2010 8:33:41 AM Subject: RE: [gatortalk] I miss Dan Mullen Just to apologize to Scott, I didn't mean to call you out specifically, I am sorry. Mullen wasn't exactly a fan favorite and I wasn't necessarily disappointed that he left. While Adazzio is a fiery coach that can motivate people, he seems to be on the same level as Lynn Amadee in the creativity department. And has been stated in the last two games, we still had players on the field with the opportunity to make the play and win the game, they didn't. My hope is we can take these next two weeks and make the needed changes and salvage something out of this season or this could be a turning point in our program. He played to his team's strengths and his opponent's weakness. That is how you win. You don't want to win? That's not brilliance, that's no secret formula, that is common sense... ============================================================ He was playing on a knife edge. Had the roles been reversed and either; The star running back didn't fumble in the red zone or the kicker didn't miss a field goal, and that turned into a 14-10 loss or an OT loss, our coaches would have been crucified for employing that same strategy. How do I know? because they were attacked for not winning "attractively enough" - this year. I'm sure Mullen was glad to get the win - as he should be, but you know very well that a lot of the same criticisms leveled at Addazio these days were directed at Mullen during his time at UF. Not that I'm letting our coaching staff off of the hook. I heard something last night that I found very disconcerting, if true, but it would explain a lot of what we've been seeing with the team this year. We all know about Meyer's "re-invention" after his health issues caused his temporary retirement. Apparently that is still very much a work in progress. I read that he has delegated so much of his former duties that practices are said to be very disorganized - something that is the polar opposite of how they were when he was paying attention to every little detail. Considering the number of new staff members that weren't around to see how we've done it before I could see how that could spiral out of control in a hurry. The big question/debate seems to be this; If Meyer remains the head coach will we continue to do things this way, or can/will he see that drastic measures need to be taken, and can/will he be able to make the needed corrections? Some of the message boards resemble the Zook era - there are some who are convinced that he must go NOW, some who blindly refuse to question him due to his resume here (until recently I was in this group), and some who feel that said body of work should buy him at least a season of adjustment (this year) to see if in fact he's willing and able to take the steps neccessary to right the ship, or if seeing that doing things this way isn't good enough, will once again retire (where I stand now).
