In a related note, the surprise offer this year went to Raph Andrades of Lincoln High in Tallahassee; the 159th rated receiver in this class.
Today, his teammate James Hearns (a MLB) committed for 2013. Something tells me that Hearns ends up rated a little higher than 159th: "LBs Daniel McMillian, James Hearns commit to Florida for 2013 by Jason Lieser The 2013 national signing day is a year away, but Florida already has four commitments for that class. The latest are a pair of linebackers who committed today, according to multiple media reports. Daniel McMillian (6-3, 220) and James Hearns (6-3, 230) both told the coaching staff they will sign with the Gators next year. Hearns, from Tallahassee-Lincoln, has several offers, including Florida State, Miami, Alabama, LSU and Notre Dame" -Zeb On Feb 2, 2012, at 11:04 AM, Steve McKibben wrote: > Building a bridge or even offering a guy with WPL's measurables, even if he > was a raw talent, could be construed, in some circles, as actions that would > benefit the program... > > > > > On Feb 2, 2012, at 8:05 AM, Steve McKibben wrote: > >> As much as we need depth, unless it's of a certain level of quality, it >> really doesn't provide true depth, or help your starters develop, and I'm >> pretty sure that they don't want to waste time/schollies on players that >> have little to no chance of benefitting the program. > > Sometimes it is good to build bridges with high school coaches.
