Hi Chrissy, I've always used tap water to mist - the down side is it leaves 'hard' water stains on the glass, but they can be removed with vinegar.
There was quite a discussion on FrogNet awhile back about RO water vs. tap: RO's lacking essential minerals, because of the way it's processed, and growing babies need minerals. Just my .02, FWIW.
