This is what I have in my SCM so far. The remaining portions are
almost ready but not knowing what will happen next I haven't worked on
them lately.

I already did it. Well almost: I have merged my changes with HEAD (and
posted the diffs), not rebasing on HEAD.

Once again, the only big problem I see is the refactorings on
the get_bounds functions.
