Forgot a couple for the list... Lucy is running a book club - they meet on Google Hangouts and discuss how an appropriate book chapter might apply to their project. This was recently reported in their board report and early feedback is very positive.
OpenOffice are building a "course" for new community members. The goal is to guide people through the learning process around contribution with regular check-ins with the community lists where the community works hard to congratulate and welcome.
