What should we do about
blogs linking to www.osafoundation.org directly?
Here's what I've heard:
* The problem is not just blog linkers, but people clicking on OSAF
first in the Google search results.
* We kinda really need more data about how many people are clicking
through www.osafoundation.org to actually arrive on the Chandler Project
site.
* A redesign of www.osafoundation.org to make Chandler Project more
prominent should happen at a minimum; there are a number approaches.
* Raising chandlerproject.org page ranking is strategically important.
* There's perceived valuing in having the two separate sites.
* The volume of traffic to the OSAF site ("unlikely they are looking for
the non-profit") is a driver for the overall concern.
* Overall leaning (informal +1/-1s) I see an overall "no, let's not just
redirect outright."
Next steps:
* Implement redesign on www.osafoundation.org to make Chandler prominent
and update title.
* Outline how we monitor www.osafoundation.org traffic.
* Monitor chandlerproject.org pagerank (and scheme on ways to improve).
* Ask bloggers in the future for an edit to www.osafoundation.org links
if one is published.
* Consider technical measures ("redirect to chandlerproject.org if
referrer matches ...") if problem persists.
* Discuss a bit more.
