Correct, this is the way to set a STATIC hostname.  This is probably
how most people set their hostnames for hand-built machines.  If
you're running a cluster or using orchestration/etc then there are
better ways to do it.  However, you're not really following the Gentoo
handbook in these sorts of cases.
