According to the GF5 FAQ on the gentoo forum, "-arch" means:
doesn't work for architecture arch. Does "-*" means:
"doesn't work for ANY architecture"?

I'm running 2.6.0 (mm serie). It was warmly recommended on the
forum... 

No problem so far, except during the installation... 
But I expect problems to come ;-)

Maybe not if you are using the "redhat" serie (AFAIK, the RH-guys
patched the 2.4.20 kernel so that it works with NPTL).
