Hey Everyone-

I think that I missed something, but I'm doing a fresh install and I'm
having a heck of a time getting ebuilds to download. Either servers are
timing out, or 404's, or host not found etc.

I'm definitely online: 'wget -O - http://www.google.com' immediately
returns html. I can manually fetch certain files with another machine
(Python-2.2.3.tgz is a good example), put the file on another server I
have, wget that file to the new machine putting it into distfiles and
the ebuild compiles no problem. Obviously a drag for more than one.

Here is my current ebuild example :

        cdimage root # emerge system
        Calculating system dependencies ...done!
        >>> emerge (1 of 42) sys-libs/slang-1.4.9 to /
        >>> Downloading
        ftp://ftp.jedsoft.org/pub/davis/slang/v1.4/slang-1.4.9.tar.bz2
        --16:25:47--
        ftp://ftp.jedsoft.org/pub/davis/slang/v1.4/slang-1.4.9.tar.bz2
                   => `/usr/portage/distfiles/slang-1.4.9.tar.bz2'
        Resolving ftp.jedsoft.org... failed: Host not found.
        !!! Couldn't download slang-1.4.9.tar.bz2. Aborting.

I understand that its impossible to keep everything 100% synced up, and
I'm absolutely not complaining about anything. But I'm wondering if
there isn't something or somewhere I should be looking at on my system
to make sure I'm looking at all the latest repositories?

I've tried 'emerge sync' a few times to see if I get a more recent
portage snap-shot; same story.

Any thoughts? Perhaps I just need a dose of patience...

Thanks in advance!
