Well, it turns out that there was no module installed for host driver. I
never understood what is to be done regarding autoloading of modules.
Anyway, modprobe uhci solved the problem (this stage of the problem,
anyway). cat /proc/bus/usb/devices returns a list of devices and
sane-find-scanner appears happy. :)
