For gui login:

1. Update /etc/rc.conf  

DISPLAYMANAGER="wdm"  xdm/kdm/gdm are your choices (you probably won't have
wdm)

2. Issue 'rc-update add xdm default' (cause the DISPLAYMANAGER you selected to
be invoked)
