You can't possibly be dealing with "having to add hundreds of lines to
package.use" unless one of two things is true:

- you did not read the news item

- you read the news item, but decided to NOT defer the upgrade, and
  instead tried to mix both python 3.11 and python 3.12 together on your
  system
