I am sorry to hear this. I believe it is an important role in current gentoo 
process. I do not know very much of the details, so I do not have a very much 
informed oppinion.

Thanks a lot for the information. I have been able to install gentoo using 
SystemRescueCD and Sabayon live-cd, this is why I believe it is a kernel 
issue. My worry is that somebody that wants to start with gentoo could have a 
very hard time during the installation process. In fact, I was showing "how 
easy" was to install gentoo: "just follow the guide" (as I did a year ago). I 
was surprised with the issues I had, and it would had been much easier if in 
the guide said something like: "if you had any issue with Gentoo live-cd you 
could use another live CD to follow this guide, for example...". We finally 
installed gentoo, and both SystemRescueCD and Sabayon live-cd were able to 
detect the hard disk. 

I belive this issue will be resolved when the 2007.1 live-cds are released.
