Displaying vector data (vector the data source) in WMS Generalizing data out of WFS might be considered out of standard, the WFS is a pure query service, does not transformations, summarization, simplification. The protocol to use for simplification (which is a special case of spatial analysis) should be WPS. The above is quite a strict vision and I could be persuaded that simplification is so useful that having in WFS would be nice, but then again, it seems like a slippery slope. Cheers Andrea -- Ing.
