I agree with what others have said up to now. The gerbil may have been
surprised, etc. *And* 'only playing' can be defined in very different
manners according to people. I have met a family I personally wouldn't
leave my gerbs to, especially because the children tended to yell really
close up to the gerbs (though I admit they are much younger than 11, and
perhaps to young to have gerbs around). But then you can't say anything.
You can only suggest that maybe in spite of it being only play, the gerbil
was startled, etc. But don't you feel bad about it, especially if you know
the gerbil well, it was a probably well-earned nip. :-)
