Just a thought, I never need to clip my gerbils nails. I provide stuff in their home for them to scratch. I have a wooden half log for them to hide in and bite and scratch on. Also a big rock would help. It's just a thought. try a small ceramic pot. They would do a better job than I could with their nails.
