Hello,

I don't think it's useless because it's still an example implementation
on how to interface a GHDL simulator with some rest of the world.

The good news is that this environment can now be tested with mainline
GHDL functionalities, for beginners this can be a very important point.

I think each of us found a way to do the trick differently and probably
less cleanly.
On my side, previously I didn't use generics in the testbenches, because
the declaration syntax is not regular (the last has no semicolon). So
instead I defined constants and used a sed pass + recompile. Life was
not shiny but certainly livable.

Also with half of the neuron budget already burnt in implementing a
functional VHDL design and optimized enough, thinking about how to
replace a working my sed stuff had zero priority.

Last point, I think for anyone who's not intimate with GHDL entrails,
whether this was possible to do, or not, was unknown: what remains after
elaboration, what has been optimized away, etc. Let alone think about
what kind of manpower would be needed to achieve this and keep it in
shape. GHDL is free software and I would feel guilty asking for
non-critical stuff that may be tough work xD
