I completely realize that this is all my fault for not reading
everything on the site and being not diligent in measuring the first
time around. I did measure my current glasses and found a replacement
pair that was almost the same total width, but the style of glasses
made them seem far wider on my face than my current glasses. The issue
I have run into with trying glasses on online is that I cannot be sure
of the proportion - I might know how wide the glasses are, but if I
don't know how wide my face is in the picture, and the measurement of
the glasses when I zoom in or out, there's no way to tell how big they
really are on my face..

The happy news is that after another email to EBD today, where I said
that I know that this was my fault but that I was disappointed that
the policy wasn't clear on the FAQ page, they said that they would
make an exception and accept the glasses back and refund me. I think
that's great, especially since I was resigning myself to eating the
cost of the glasses. Although it took a bunch of back-and-forths (and
I'm not thrilled that they pressured me into going with high-index
lenses in the first place even though I only wanted to go with the
standard index ones for my first pair) customer service at EBD seems
to be responsive as long as you're persistent. I wonder if the offer
of the refund came because I mentioned posting to this forum? Anyway,
I certainly won't complain about EBD to my friends, I'll just tell
them that they have to be very careful with measurements if they
choose to buy online. And to read all the fine print!

If I decide to try the online thing again (and it would be great to be
able to get glasses for under $200 a pair) I'll do what you suggest
and go for a super cheap pair without the high-index or coatings and
see how it goes. Trial and error indeed. I have a whole lot more to
learn before I dip my foot in again.

The original style I chose was Cau-Cau, but it's not on the site
anymore. The second pair was Borah

No picture, sorry. I've already boxed them up to be sent back.
