All great ideas. Currently I'm wearing a pair that is 50-17 (133 wide) with 135 mm temples that I've had for over 5 years and finally got sick of accepting that they are uncomfortable and do not fit despite the fact the opticians at Lenscrafters told me they looked fine.
The glasses always tilt up in back even with the temples bent excessively because they are too short by about 10 mm, and the temples bow out because the frame width is about 5 mm too short on each side, making the spring hinges always strained and putting dents above my ears. The bridge is just about right, but the lenses are too small because I constantly catch myself looking around the lenses. So, I went and got a new exam, and the doctor told the store I needed 145 mm temples to which they procured 2 ugly frames. I asked if they could order custom sizes and they said no. I'm done with Lenscrappers and other mall chain stores, the people there are idiots. Why would anyone try to sell you something you wear on your body every waking moment that doesn't fit? After trying my parents (not my style) glasses on and checking the dimensions in a mirror, I arrived at the measurements that most closely match my apparently fat head. Just so you know, I wouldn't pass up a frame because the temples were 142 mm or if one of the dimensions were close, but wouldn't it make sense to be able to search by size? I ended up getting 2 pair from Zenni since they seemed to have the best selection in my sizes, I'll let you know how they work. Now I'm looking for a pair of polarized prescription sunglasses too, only to find that's even harder to find sunglasses with sizes for the frames, let alone finding a place that has polarized lenses! It seems the eyeglass retailers have a monopoly on pushing fashion without giving people what they need. Thanks for all the tips!
