with gmerlin_plugincfg. It saves the configuration in ~/.gmerlin/generic,
which is loaded by all my commandline programs.

Yes. Do you have the development package for pulseaudio?
The configure script should tell in the summary if it found pulseaudio or not.

That's weird. Does it happen with all video files?

do you have libv4lconvert? It's needed by some webcams.

Can be that it's some Alsa-Pulseaudio conflict and that recording with
pulseaudio would fix that.

But: A system must never be locked up by an application. If it happens,
there might be an application bug, but there is *always* a system bug as well.
