I can see the point, but the issue that strikes me is if I decide to contribute programs I use on Linux, then supplying them becomes intriguing as i would need to supply pacakges for all the major distros and obviously you then get into dependency issues and config variances. To say nothing about the fact it is all I can do to keep abreast of one distro.
