OK, I had that problem before with GNOME < 1.2. The only solution I
found was to delete the .gnome directory from my home directory and
rebuild my environment again. I haven't seen the problem since I got
helix gnome 1.2. I was running Gnome 1.1 and Sawmill, so I suspect
it's a gnome bug, not the window manager.
Note, I didn't try the things Ben suggested, so you may be able to
pinpoint the exact problem.
