I'll be the first to admit that I do have a knee-jerk reaction to anything Microsoft. And, frankly, I make no apologies for it. But, for the sake of averting a thread-from-hell, I'll refraining from detailing it all -- I'm sure much of it has been discussed on this list ad-infinitem. Not as big a deal, since the code was GPL, those developers contributed and did not violate the GPL. They could conceivable 'pull' their contributions, but since they are GPLed, the snapshot before they pull it would allow continued development by someone else. Besides, I doubt that relatively low number of occurences of the company name would threaten Linux to it's core. If worse came to worse pull all of their contributions and serious doubt the impact to the kernel would be even noticeable. With .NET, M$ has already warned (several months ago) when asked about Mono, that they would do what they could to 'protect their intellectual property,' even though they were paying lip service to Mono as a good thing. Think software patents (which already threaten us), think DMCA. > > I actually find his latest statements (quoted in The Register) ... > > The Register has a tendency to be, shall we say, somewhat incendiary in > their selection and presentation of material.
